Job Overview

The Multiplatform News Producer is a hybrid newsroom position responsible for creating, curating, and publishing timely, engaging content across WNYT’s digital platforms while also producing compelling linear television newscasts. This role is designed for a journalist who understands that strong local storytelling must reach audiences wherever they are: on the web, on mobile, on social media, on streaming platforms, and on television.

This position requires strong editorial judgment, excellent writing skills, comfort with breaking news, and the ability to manage multiple platforms under deadline. The Multiplatform News Producer will publish and optimize digital content, update breaking news coverage, create audience-focused stories for online and social platforms, and help drive engagement across WNYT’s digital products. In addition, this person will help build and execute newscasts, write and edit broadcast scripts, manage story flow, coordinate with anchors and crews, and help ensure WNYT’s coverage is accurate, urgent, clear, and audience-focused.

The ideal candidate is a fast, organized, and creative newsroom collaborator who can move confidently between digital and broadcast workflows. This person will work closely with reporters, anchors, producers, assignment editors, photographers, managers, and digital leadership to make sure our coverage is strong on every screen.

Job Responsibilities

Key duties include, but are not limited to:

 

Digital Content Creation & Publishing

  • Write, edit, publish, and update content across WNYT's website, app, streaming, and social platforms.
  • Produce and optimize digital content using video, photos, graphics, and other multimedia assets.
  • Apply AP style, SEO best practices, and platform-specific storytelling techniques.
  • Adapt broadcast content for digital audiences and identify opportunities to expand coverage online.

Social Media & Audience Engagement

  • Create and publish social content that promotes coverage and engages audiences.
  • Use social platforms to distribute breaking news, weather updates, and community information.
  • Monitor audience trends and analytics to strengthen content performance and reach.

Newsroom Collaboration & Editorial Support

  • Work closely with reporters, anchors, photographers, assignment editors, managers, and production staff to develop and execute coverage plans.
  • Participate in editorial meetings, contribute story ideas, and support enterprise and digital-first coverage.
  • Monitor news sources, conduct research, gather background information, and assist with story development and follow-up coverage.

Television News Producing

  • Produce assigned newscasts, including building rundowns, selecting stories, managing timing, and making editorial decisions under deadline.
  • Write and edit broadcast content, including anchor copy, teases, breaking news updates, and other newscast elements.
  • Coordinate video, graphics, live shots, and newsroom teams to ensure accurate and compelling coverage.
  • Review content for accuracy, clarity, fairness, and adherence to station standards.
  • Support special projects, extended coverage, and other newscasts as assigned.

Technical & Platform Management

  • Use newsroom, production, and content management systems to create and publish content across platforms.
  • Utilize analytics and digital tools to support editorial decision-making and audience growth.
  • Maintain organized newsroom materials and perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in television news production, digital news production, or a newsroom setting preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, grammar, and AP style skills.
  • Sound editorial judgment and the ability to make quick, accurate decisions during breaking news.
  • Ability to produce a television newscast, build rundowns, write scripts, manage timing, coordinate visual elements, and adjust to breaking news.
  • Experience with digital publishing tools, social media platforms, basic video editing, and graphics tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
  • Familiarity with SEO, social media analytics, audience engagement practices, and digital performance metrics.
  • Understanding of television producing, including rundowns, script writing, timing, video, graphics, live shots, control room communication, and live news coverage.
  • Ability to write for different platforms, including broadcast, web, mobile, streaming, and social media.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Initiative and creativity in developing fresh, community-focused content.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with anchors, reporters, photographers, editors, directors, producers, assignment editors, and managers.
  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends and holidays, early morning, midday and evening shifts.
  • Must have reliable form of transportation and valid driver's license.  Driving record will be checked.
Physical Requirements

Average sitting, standing and office-type movements. Light lifting, moving and pulling abilities. Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing. Ability to hear and see clearly. Dexterity to manipulate computer keys and other controls as well as other office equipment. Requires the ability to think critically and tactically and to articulate information in clear, concise manner to others verbally and in writing. Must be able to think quickly and work under tight deadlines and in pressure situations. The successful candidate must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. This position is subject to pre-employment driving record background check. Compensation and Benefits

When extending an offer, the company considers a variety of factors such as (but not limited to) the candidate's work experience, education/training & key skills as well as internal peer equity and other market and business considerations.

The range for this position is $19.00-$23.00 per hour.
