Bookkeeper - Part-Time

Opera Saratoga is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to assist our company with day-to-day financial tasks. The Bookkeeper will be responsible for both accounts payable and receivable along with all payroll and bank account management and reconciliation tasks. They will be responsible for recording financial data into QuickBooks and providing the Executive Director with P&L statements and balance sheets monthly, cash flow forecasting and projections, providing accountants with year-end closing statements, and assisting with Opera Saratoga’s yearly audit.

The ideal candidate is one who is familiar with nonprofit performing arts administration, has a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and is a team player. This is a part-time position, with a maximum workload of 15 hours per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES, may include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Recording day-to-day financial transactions and completing the posting process
  • Reconciling sales taxes, payroll taxes, 401k, and bank accounts at the end of each month
  • Monitoring financial transactions and reports
  • Creating and processing accounts receivable and payable
  • Processing and writing checks
  • Maintaining a balanced general ledger
  • Working with an accountant when necessary
  • Handling and processing bi-weekly payroll
  • Providing leadership with financials reports as needed
  • Advising leadership on compliance needs
  • Printing Checks in House and Processing Independent Contractors
  • Attending meetings of the Board of Directors when necessary; and
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Basic accounting knowledge – specifically, knowledge in nonprofit GAAP accounting
  • Data Entry
  • Must be detail oriented, thorough and organized
  • Must be proficient in QuickBooks and Excel
  • Previous bookkeeping experience (2 years preferred)
  • Able to prepare, review, and understand financial statements
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Confidentiality
  • Comfortable dealing with large volumes of complex data
OTHER DESIRED SKILLS
  • Understanding of artistic process
  • Interest in learning about performing arts and opera
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Hourly position: $25-$30/hour commensurate with experience, with a maximum of 15 hours per week. Flexible schedule to be determined with Executive Director. Benefits include accrued paid time off and an optional retirement plan.
