DESCRIPTION:You just got back from the auction with a new vise but there's a problem\; it's missing some pieces. In this class we will work our way through a problem the budding smith often encounters: how to forge new hardware for an old vise. Working in teams\, students will fashion a spring\, combination mounting strap/collar and keys for a smith's leg vise. This class will get into the theoretical and practical sides of forging to dimension\, drifting rectangular slots and matching new forgings to existing hardware. Repairing threads in the screw and screw box will be discussed but not undertaken. Students are welcome to bring a vise in need of repair.\n\n\n\nNOTE:  Hard shoes and long pants are required for student's safety.
